What is a Cookie?

Cookie Policy

Of Stepto.Support Website

This document informs Users about the technologies that help this Website to achieve the purposes described below. Such technologies allow the Owner to access and store information (for example by using a Cookie) or use resources (for example by running a script) on a User’s device as they interact with this Website.

For simplicity, all such technologies are defined as “Trackers” within this document – unless there is a reason to differentiate. For example, while Cookies can be used on both web and mobile browsers, it would be inaccurate to talk about Cookies in the context of mobile apps as they are a browser-based Tracker. For this reason, within this document, the term Cookies is only used where it is specifically meant to indicate that particular type of Tracker.

This Website only uses Trackers managed directly by the Owner (so-called “first-party” Trackers). No third-party provider is involved, and no data is passed on to one.

In addition to what’s specified in the descriptions within each of the categories below, Users may find more precise and updated information regarding lifetime specification as well as any other relevant information — such as the presence of other Trackers — in the linked privacy policies of the respective third-party providers or by contacting the Owner.

This Website uses so-called “technical” Cookies and other similar Trackers to carry out activities that are strictly necessary for the operation or delivery of the Service.

What are your rights?

The stepto.support website places no cookies on the devices of its visitors, so there is nothing here for you to switch on or off, and you will not be asked for consent. Cookies are only set once someone logs in as an editor of the website; these are listed below. If you would like to delete cookies or instruct your web browser to delete or refuse them, please visit the help pages of your browser.

Please note that you have rights as a data subject with respect to the information processed through cookies. For details, see our privacy policy.

In case of any request or complaint or if you need more information about the processing of your personal data or your relevant rights, please contact our coordination team.

Matomo Analytics Plugin

Matomo Analytics was designed with privacy in mind. Simply by using Matomo, the 2PS project will ensure that all of your valuable information is private and owned by one person (you!) and that your website respects your visitors’ privacy. The source code of the software is open-source so hundreds of people have reviewed it to ensure it is secure and keeps your data private. These privacy features, along with the open and decentralised nature of Matomo, mean that users’ privacy is respected.

On this website Matomo is configured to run without cookies. It sets no _pk_id, _pk_ses or comparable cookies and stores nothing on your device. Visits are counted on the server only, and IP addresses are shortened by two octets before they are stored, so that at most the country you connect from remains recognisable. Matomo also respects the “Do Not Track” setting of your browser.

WordPress Cookies

WordPress sets several essential cookies to manage user sessions, authentication, and personalized settings. These cookies help ensure a smooth user experience and are required for certain website functionalities. However, WordPress cookies will only work in regular browsing sessions and will not be stored or function if you access the website in private/incognito mode.

Below are the WordPress cookies used on this website:

  • wordpress_logged_in_* – WordPress sets this cookie after a user logs in to remember their session and provide access to personalized content. It is required for authentication but only functions in standard browsing sessions. Duration: Session (expires when the browser is closed)
  • wordpress_sec_* – This is a secure session cookie set by WordPress to maintain a logged-in state and protect user authentication. It enhances login security but does not store personal data. Duration: Session
  • wp-settings-* – WordPress sets this cookie to save user-specific preferences, such as admin panel layout and interface customizations. It is only applied if you are logged in and using a regular (non-private) browser session. Duration: Persistent (but not available in incognito mode)

Since these cookies are session-based, they are removed when you close your browser unless you are using a persistent login setting. If you access the site in incognito or private mode, WordPress cookies will not function, and login states or preferences will not be retained.

For more details, visit the official WordPress privacy page: https://wordpress.org/about/privacy/
